Choosing a tarot deck
There is a popular belief that you should only work with tarot cards that have been gifted to you, I have had much success over the years with both gifted tarot cards and myself buying them. I think it’s perfectly acceptable to purchase your own, especially if you are drawn to a deck.
There are so many gorgeous ones out there that may draw your attention, and I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t buy them yourself other than they make a fabulous gift!
I have so many different decks, as you can imagine, enough to open a shop with, but I tend to just use one or two decks to work professionally with. My fave being the traditional rider wait deck. But this will soon swap to my own astro deck deck!
These are a great starting point for many and as there a lot of books, teaching and other decks based around the rider wait meanings, this can be easier to start with for some. Once you have got used to these you really can read any deck from the basic foundation meanings, the symbols, and astrology. You can then use your intuition, layering the cards with any more messages and information you get.
I would say, be open to using different decks and different spreads, you will soon feel at ease with what suits you the most and how you like to work.
I think your choice of cards depends on your personality, what your interest in and your moods at the time. Sometimes I’ll be in the mood for elemental and nature styles other times perhaps moon and astrology styles. It’s good to go with the flow and be open to finding your way within your tarot journey.
